Notes on map of suggested road network alignments
All suggested new road configurations are sample alignments, not suggested to be a precise layout.
Two
alternatives for the Connector through-traffic route are shown in red,
one more possibility is beyond the boundary of this map.
- The
southern alternative would be of greater long term benefit to the road
system. This would bypass El Dorado Hills approximately at its current
southern boundary and would continue eastward. Part of its objective
would be to serve as the beginning of a new east/west arterial in El
Dorado County serving areas at least as far east as Shingle Springs.
This would be essentially a south-side equivalent of Green Valley Road.
The western terminus would be a junction with White Rock Road or
possibly Grant Line Road in Sacramento County.
- The
northern alternative is a direct diagnonal connection between a White
Rock Road alignment of the Connector and US 50 at the future Empire
Ranch Road interchange. The eastbound end could be either a grade
separation to an additional onramp or a signalized intersection at
Empire Ranch Road with direct access to the planned onramp. The
westbound connection is drawn on this map as a flyover.
- An
extreme souther route is possible by extending Douglas Road eastbound
in Sacramento County until it joins the South Shingle Road right of
way, curving north to intersect US 50 at the Ponderosa Road interchange
in Shingle Springs. This would be less preferred because of its
separation of several miles from El Dorado Hills and other developed
areas at the west end of the county. Its main advantage would be ability to use the South Shingle Road right of way.
Some
degree of development of arterials and major collectors in both
counties is essential for distribution of future traffic loads induced
by El Dorado Hills growth. That growth includes buildout of the
business park, whose employee population limit will sunset in 2025,
buildout of the Valley View Specific Plan area, and further buildout of
the Town Center commercial area.
Completion of the planned
extension of Saratoga Way to join Iron Point Road is important not only
to produce a second arterial connection between El Dorado Hills and
Folsom north of US 50, but also to accept traffice between the north
part of El Dorado Hills and the Connector to provide some degree of
relief to US 50 and Latrobe Road. If White Rock Road is chosen as the
Connector alignment need will be compelling for the Saratoga-Iron Point
arterial connection, in order to relieve the intersection of Latrobe
Road and White Rock Road..
