Traffic Patrol: Citizens Alliance seeking changes in state law
We have initiated communication with
Assemblyman Alan Nakanishi's office with an objective of changing state
law to permit the El Dorado County Sheriff to have full authority for
Vehicle Code enforcement in El Dorado Hills, with obtaining traffic
patrol being by far the most important goal. A special article
submitted to Village Life,
hopefully to appear in this week's edition, outlines the compelling
need for adequate traffic patrol and the shortage of it due to
limitations of existing state law and shortage of CHP availability.
This is similar to action taken earlier this year by the Sacramento
County Board Of Supervisors for its own jurisdiction's
unincorporated urban areas, to address what the Sacramento Bee called
"the lawless streets of the uncity". Additional information is
available through our Active Issues web page.
Conversations with Candidates
Our September meeting begins a series called
Conversations with Candidates, in preparation for local elections in 2008. Each
Conversations
meeting will bring in two candidates as guest speakers. The planned
format is to first have the candidates tell us about themselves and
outline their views in the context of the office they seek. Next we
will move to a true dialog among the candidates and all attending the
meeting.
We hope this will provide an opportunity for in-depth discussion and an
opportunity for attendees to guide the focus toward their concerns and
interests. We think meeting only two candidates at once will give
citizens a better basis to make well informed decisions when they vote.
Our first priority will be candidates for Board of Supervisors
Districts 1 and 2, the districts most important to El Dorado Hills.
Candidates at our September 12th meeting are Shiva Frentzen, District 1
candidate from Cameron Park, and Barbara Smiley, District 2 candidate
from Shingle Springs.
