Citizens Alliance notes on the Connector:  It needs our attention NOW!

Capital Southeast Connector Workshop, April 29th

----  This announcement is forwarded verbatim from the Connector Joint Powers Authorit.

The Capital SouthEast Connector is holding a Community Workshop to obtain community input into the planning process for the Connector Project.

This is the first in a series of three working meetings with community leaders in El Dorado Hills. Our intent is to roll up our sleeves and begin to delve into the challenges and opportunities presented by the Connector Project in the El Dorado Hills area.

It  would help us if you could distribute the meeting information to the membership of your Community groups. Thank you for helping us get the following information to your members:

April 29, 2009
Rolling Hills Middle School
7141 Silva Valley Parkway
El Dorado Hills
Meeting time: 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

It would help us tremendously in our planning efforts if you could give us a sense of how many members from your group will attend the meeting.  You can send me an email or give me a call with the information at either of the phone numbers below or if you have any questions about the meeting.

Thanks and I hope to see you on April 29th.

Citizens Alliance notes on the Connector:  It needs our attention NOW!

The Citizens Alliance considers route choice for the Capital Southeast Connector to be one of the most important current issues for El Dorado Hills. Our concerns involve the currently designated route, which collects traffic from Sacramento County on one side of EDH and from El Dorado County on the other side, routing all through traffic across El Dorado Hills on White Rock Road.

In terms of road network topology this is similar to the situation created in the City of Folsom when the Dam Road was closed. Without the Dam Road to serve as a bypass a single path on Folsom's city streets connected traffic collected in Sacramento County on one side with traffic collected in El Dorado County on the other side. The immediate result was a dramatic increase in Folsom traffic congestion, which in turn impacted businesses in the congested area. In some cases the impact was fatal: A number of businesses closed, others relocated to a different area.

This illustrates the risk of having the Southeast Connector carry through traffic across our most traffic-challenged intersection in the Town Center Area. The Citizens Alliance has suggested two possible alternate routes, and more alternatives are possible. Identifying good route alternatives requires joint cooperation among El Dorado Hills, the City of Folsom, and the Connector JPA.

The Connector can benefit EDH traffic instead of worsening it if we can identify a good way for its through traffic to bypass our surface streets and for it to draw traffic originating in EDH taway from our congested arterials -- "both of them". Choice of this route may require changes in Folsom's plans for the road network in its Sphere Of Influence area, which lies between White Rock Road and US 50.

This is a time when we need good communication and cooperation among all agencies involved with the Connector and with the increasingly interdependent road networks of EDH and Folsom.  Let's talk, think, and carefully make plans for everyone's mutual benefit. Please attend the JPA's workshop on April 29th if you can.
